Casting a spell

The art of sand casting goes back centuries. In fact it can be traced back to the Bronze Age in China. It's a wonderful way of creating a unique piece of jewellery. A mould is made from "sand", which is actually a kind of sticky, oily substance, and molten metal is then poured in. It's a tricky process and so far I've had some hits and many, many misses! But the mystical process has cast a spell on me. (see what I did there!). I love the fact that each piece created is a real one off. It also takes recycling silver to the next level. I always buy recycled silver to use in my pieces, but obviously there are always offcuts left over. Sand casting is a great way of using these scraps and recycling them again into pieces of jewellery. It's a win, win!
