Reticulation is defined by the Oxford dictionary as a pattern or arrangement of interlacing lines resembling a net. How apt, as my latest project has been learning how to reticulate silver to create beautiful patterns on the surface. It's a laborious practice of heating the metal to almost melting point, then cooling it, cleaning it, and then starting all over again. It's recommended you do this at least seven times before then concentrating the heat in various parts of the metal to create a raised surface. The results are variable, and it's impossible to create two pieces the same. I'm in love with the organic shapes and textures this creates. Some turn out like skin on cooling custard, some like lava flows and boiling seas. It looks so good paired with a nugget of sea glass, somehow the two just work perfectly together. Expect to see many more reticulated pieces!
